Abstract

The author has developed simple but pretty effective signal processing gradient algorithm for adaptive antenna arrays deployed in mobile networks. The feature of the algorithm is that it does not require presence of the reference signal, which greatly simplifies its practical implementation. Still, the problems of the algorithm operation in situations of complete interfering signals absence or their very low levels were not elaborated. To resolve this problem, tests were carried out of the algorithm in respective noise situations, which indicated that though certain deviations in the directivity patterns from the optimal ones were observed, they insignificantly impacted feasible signal-to-noise ratio. In this case, the lower interfering signal level was, the greater the respective deviations were. It is proposed to perfect the algorithm by introducing a threshold device, which activates adaptation mode only when interference reaches a certain level.

Keywords: mobile networks, adaptive antenna arrays, gradient adaptation algorithms, computer simulation, signal-to-noise ratio, threshold device.
