Abstract

The article discusses the issue of digital transformation in museums in Ukraine,
specifically evaluating the level of implementation of digital innovations in museum
activities. Museums are increasingly focusing on integrating modern digital
technologies, such as virtual tours, online exhibitions, interactive platforms, and social
media, to improve engagement with audiences and preserve cultural heritage. In
particular, in 2024, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Digital Transformation
of Ukraine initiated the creation of museum fund registries, which allow the evaluation
of the digital readiness of institutions.
One of the key aspects of the study is the development of a methodology for
assessing the digital transformation of museums. The selection of evaluation indicators
includes museum websites, traffic indicators, the use of digital elements on sites, as well
as the analysis of social media and digital projects. The criteria assessed include
design, user-friendliness, integration of virtual tours, use of mobile technologies, and
the availability of online resources.
The results of the study reveal significant diversity in approaches to digitization
among museums in Ukraine, depending on the type of museum, available resources,
and strategic priorities. Museums actively use the Sketchfab platform to create 3D
models, as well as mobile applications and video content on YouTube to engage new
audiences. At the same time, tools such as AR/VR and mobile applications are used
sparingly due to the high cost of implementation.
Digital transformation in museums not only contributes to improving engagement
with visitors but also helps in the preservation and popularization of cultural heritage.
However, successful implementation of digital initiatives requires adequate funding,
infrastructure modernization, and staff qualifications. The article emphasizes the
importance of creating comprehensive frameworks to assess the level of digital
transformation in museums, which will not only help understand current practices but
also formulate recommendations for further development of digital strategies in the
museum sector.
