Abstract

The article substantiates a methodological approach to
the integral assessment of the competitiveness of financial sector enterprises, grounded in
information and analytical support derived from open regulatory and reporting sources.
Competitiveness is interpreted as a multidimensional characteristic that reflects an institution’s
capacity to retain and strengthen its market position through a balanced combination of capital
resilience, profitability, liquidity, market influence, and digital maturity. The proposed sequence
comprises seven logically connected stages: the formation of an information base, the structuring of
indicators by functional blocks, normalisation with a distinction between stimulators and destimulators, the determination of weighting coefficients through expert and analytical procedures,
the convolution of partial indices into an integral indicator, interpretation against a scale of levels,
and the support of managerial decisions with continuous monitoring. A demonstrative calculation for
conditional groups of banking institutions confirmed the ability of the model to distinguish the sources
of competitive advantage: state-owned institutions stand out in market position, foreign-owned ones
in digital maturity and profitability, and privately owned ones in the flexibility of liquidity
management. An analysis of the dynamics of the financial result of the Ukrainian banking sector
confirmed a deepening differentiation of institutions by profitability, which reinforces the need for
instruments of quantitative comparison. The advantages of the approach are its reproducibility, the
transparency of the weighting procedures, and the possibility of updating the estimates in a
monitoring mode without resorting to closed supervisory data. The practical value lies in shaping an
analytical basis for ranking institutions, justifying investment and regulatory decisions, and
identifying directions for strengthening competitive positions. The limitations stemming from the
subjectivity of expert weighting are outlined, and directions for the further development of the toolkit
in terms of integrating digital indicators and automating computations are defined.
Keywords: competitiveness, financial sector, banking institution, integral index, multi-criteria
assessment, indicator normalisation, information and analytical support, digital maturity, ranking.
