Abstract

At present, the agricultural lands have suffered the most damage from military aggression, including craters from projectiles, scorched earth, soil contamination with harmful substances, replacement, and, therefore, this land will not be suitable for producing quality agricultural products for a long time. Eight crimes committed by the Russian Federation aimed at the destruction of the agricultural sector in Ukraine can be highlighted: the destruction of soil through the creation of craters, ruptures, and the scattering of fragments; contamination of the territory with chemical substances, remnants of military equipment, and missiles; landmining of the territory; destruction of forests and forest belts; alteration of landscapes, pollution, and destruction of rivers and water bodies; killing of domestic and farm animals; theft of agricultural products and resources; destruction of farms, grain storage facilities, and machinery; disruption of logistical routes for the export of agricultural products. According to the data from the State Environmental Inspection of Ukraine, the aggressive actions of the Russian forces have led to the following: 182,880 square meters of soil contaminated with harmful substances; 2,365,129 square meters of land littered with remnants of destroyed objects and munitions; 680,618 tons of petroleum products burned during shelling, resulting in significant air and soil pollution. From the first day of the invasion into the territory of Ukraine by the Russian army, all the damage inflicted on the Ukrainian agricultural sector has been documented. It is already possible to speak about the total losses amounting to 872.70 billion hryvnias, which corresponds to 23% of the total value of agricultural assets in Ukraine. Therefore, the research has shown that Russian aggression has detrimental consequences for the activities of the agricultural sector in Ukraine, making it more vulnerable and sensitive to the challenges of war. This is confirmed by the magnitude of the losses incurred by agricultural enterprises, the amounts of foregone income by business structures, disruptions in logistical routes, reduction in the export of finished products, decreased tax revenues to the country's budget, and an increase in the size of social payments and assistance.

Key words: crimes of Russian aggression, agricultural sector of the economy, soil destruction, losses, destruction of livestock and crop farming.
